The Catalans appear to have stopped pursuing Haaland’s signature amid interest from Real Madrid and Manchester City.
Ahead of the summer transfer window, almost every elite European club are somehow related to the possible transfers of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.
The pair’s possible transfers affect not only their next destinations but also other clubs that are in the market for other strikers.
Spanish sides have speculated about Barcelona and Real Madrid’s interest in signing Haaland. However, a new interview with Barcelona president Juan Laporta indicates the Catalans might have already quit the race.
“Even if we had the best economic situation, there are operations we would not do,” Laporta told Eport3 (via Sportsmax).
He added: “[Mateu] Alemany, Jordi [Cruyff] and the technical secretary are working on improving the team.
“We want to carry out operations, but some are difficult.
“We have to save ourselves., we have already improved the situation. Btut, we have to complete the recovery of the economic situation. We won’t do deals that could put the institution at risk.”
In the past week, reports have emerged of Manchester City having a deal in place for Haaland. The Citizens have a significant financial advantage over Barcelona, who still struggle with their bloated wage bill despite significant winter improvements.
