The Catalans will have to play without their star midfielder until after the World Cup.

Frank Kessie will miss Barcelona’s remaining two games ahead of the Qatar World Cup.

Kessie has struggled for game time since joining the Catalans on a free summer move. Xavi Hernandez handed the Ivorian star his fifth start of the season against Viktoria Plzen.

However, he had to leave the pitch with an injury a few minutes past the hour mark.

“He is screwed. I think he has hurt his hamstring,” Xavi Hernandez said after the game.

“He was playing a good game in the midfield position, winning duels, and was good at the start.”

Xavi went on to confirm Kessie won’t return to action until after the World Cup. However, that won’t hurt the former Milan star too much, as his national team is not playing in the tournament anyway.

Kessie joins a host of Barcelona players that are absent ahead of their next league game against Almeria on Saturday.

Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia, Ronald Araujo, Sergio Roberto, Andreas Christensen and Jules Kounde are all out with injuries. However, all of them are close to making their returns ahead of the Qatar tournament.

Following the Almeria clash, Barcelona will meet Osasuna in their last pre-World Cup game next Tuesday.
