Barcelona missed the chance to overthrow Real Madrid as La Liga leaders as they were held to a draw at Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan.
It did not take too long for a goal to arrive when FC Barcelona played host to Sevilla on Sunday evening.
Just eight minutes after the referee had whistled for kick-off, the home team took the lead through Luuk de Jong. A corner was played into the box which the Barca defense failed to clear resulting in them conceding for the first time this season.
Barca made sure to respond in a flash as they found the equalizing goal just two minutes later. Philippe Coutinho, after a brilliant combination of Jordi Alba and Lionel Messi, received the ball and picked out the top-right corner.
The first-half remained quite intense but the scoreline remained tied on 1-1 when the referee blew for half time.
Neither of the team, especially Barca, were able to show much of their creative side in the second half. Both teams had some nervous moments but they weren’t enough to cause any serious damage.
The teams couldn’t be separated until full time, which saw Barca’s perfect start to the season under new manager Ronald Koeman get spoiled.
After missing out on the chance to replace bitter rivals Real Madrid as La Liga leaders, up next for the Catalan giants is a trip to Getafe.
