Barcelona are troubled once again as one of their important central defenders is out with a long-term injury.

Although Barcelona came out victorious against Linares Deportivo in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday, they have endured a serious injury problem.

The Catalan side conceded an early goal in the first half, but Xavi’s men hassled their way back in the second half. Goals from Ousmane Dembele and Ferran Jutgla allowed Barca to progress to the next round.

Pleasing as that may sound, they faced a couple of injury setbacks as Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong were substituted.

Araujo began the clash against Linares, however, was sidelined at half-time due to a wrist issue. And now, it has been reported by Diario AS that the initial scans indicate a fracture in the right wrist of the Uruguayan defender.

Further medical tests will be conducted on Thursday. Regardless of that, it seems that the 22-year-old will be out of action for a substantial period.

Indeed, Araujo has become a prominent figure in Barcelona in recent times. Not only has he served as a central defender but he has provided cover at the full-back position whenever needed.

Meanwhile, De Jong is said to have picked up a muscular injury on Wednesday night. Along with Araujo, the Dutch midfielder will undergo further exams today to derive a clear picture of the problem.
