Barcelona have issued an ultimatum for French striker Ousmane Dembele over his contract extension at the club.
Barcelona have offered striker Ousmane Dembele two weeks to make a decision regarding his new contract with the club with his deal expiring at the end of the campaign.
The French star arrived at Camp Nou in 2017 with high ambitions about his future with one of the best teams in the world. However, the youngster could not fulfil all the demands with injuries storming his career.
In his 121 appearances for Barcelona across all tournaments, Dembele has managed to yield only 30 goals and 22 assists. And regardless of his constant struggles at the club, Barca are willing to extend a welcoming hand towards him beyond his current deal.
In fact, new boss Xavi Hernandez also believes that the France international has the potential to become one of the brightest stars in football. But, so far, we have not seen any positive developments in that aspect.
Nevertheless, Dembele is completely free to discuss his future options outside the club in the forthcoming January transfer window. Although, Barcelona are demanding a stable answer within the next 14 days, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
There have been indications that even though the winger is eager for the renewal, his agent is playing the waiting game until further options are opened up. Many top clubs from Europe have been interested in the prospect of Dembele and will be if there is a denial in his contract extension.
It is also believed that the La Liga club has offered the 24-year-old similar terms as the other players, with incentive-based bonuses. But keeping everything in mind, the striker only has two weeks to deliver his verdict.
Dembele has just made his comeback from a long-term knee injury and was part of Barca’s last two Champions League outings. We will have to wait for his decision in the coming days and see what unfolds.
