Another injury for the Catalan giants, as Barcelona defender Sergi Roberto will potentially miss a substantial amount of the season.

Barcelona have released a statement regarding defender Sergi Roberto’s surgery which will take place in the upcoming days.

The Spanish full-back has not made an appearance for the Catalan club since their 1-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano in October.

He sustained a thigh injury and has been receiving treatment since then. But it seems like he will spend more time on the sidelines than expected.

Barcelona’s official statement read: “The first team player Sergi Roberto will undergo surgery in the coming days for the injury he sustained to his rectus femoris muscle in his right thigh.”

“The procedure will be carried out by Dr. Lasse Lempainen in Turku, Finland under the supervision of the club’s medical staff. When the surgery has been carried out, the club will issue a new press release.”

Roberto has racked 12 outings across all competitions during this season and has not yet featured for the new boss Xavi.

Unfortunately, reports suggest that he will be out for at least six months after the surgery. Meaning, the right-back will be back until April 2022.

That brings Roberto’s future at Barcelona in a grey cloud, with the 29-year-old’s deal terminating at the end of the season. And there have been no further negotiations regarding his agreement.
