Barcelona will have to deal with a new long-term injury in their squad.

Eric Garcia suffered a hamstring injury during Barcelona’s 1-1 draw against Granada on Saturday. Xavi Hernandez replaced the former Manchester City star with Clement Lenglet in the 54th minute.

Barcelona carried out more tests on the defender on Sunday to determine the severity of his injury.

An official statement from the club reads: “Tests carried out on first-team player Eric Garcia this morning confirmed a right hamstring injury.

“He is likely to be sidelined for around five weeks.”

Garcia joined Barcelona on a free transfer from Man City last summer. The Spaniard has featured in 20 games for the Catalans, playing more often since the arrival of Xavi.

The Barcelona coach saw two of his first-team players return to the squad before the Granada game. However, the returns of Memphis Depay and Sergino Dest were not enough to save Barca from another disappointing display.

The Catalans will now prepare to face Real Madrid without a host of their regular starters on Wednesday. Xavi, however, has confirmed he will have Ansu Fati back for the game.

Following the Real Madrid game, Barcelona will return to La Liga action with a match against Rayo Vallecano on January 19.
