The Catalans are on the verge of offloading one of their defenders after the arrival of Andreas Christensen.

Tottenham are on the verge of signing Clement Lenglet from Barcelona on a loan deal.

The Frenchman fell out of favour at Camp Nou last season, starting only seven La Liga games. Lenglet’s chances of getting game time would decrease further after the arrival of Andreas Christensen from Chelsea.

However, the 27-year-old is now close to joining Tottenham on a loan deal ahead of the next season.

According to Sky Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Spurs have agreed to sign Lenglet on loan until June 2023.

There is reportedly no option or obligation to buy in Lenglet’s contract. The two sides are currently working on the deal’s final details while Lenglet has already agreed to personal terms with the Premier League side.

Gerard Pique, Ronald Araujo, and Eric Garcia were ahead of Lenglet in Barca’s pecking order. The three defenders will now have to compete against Christensen for a place in Xavi Hernandez’s lineup.

After offloading Lenglet from their wage books, Barca will most likely continue their efforts a few other members of their squad.

In defence, Oscar Mingueza and Samuel Omtiti are reportedly on Barca’s exit list.

Frenkie de Jong might also leave Barcelona this summer, with Manchester United continuing their efforts to sign him. Among Barca’s forwards, Memphis Depay might leave the club ahead of the next season.
