Ronald de Boer has shed light on the qualities of Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay is confident that they can shine at Barcelona.
FC Barcelona’s new boss Ronaldo Koeman is said to be organizing an overhaul of his squad this summer.
Luis Suarez, Arturo Vidal, and Sergio Busquets have reportedly been informed that their services are no longer required and they are soon expected to follow Ivan Rakitic out the Camp Nou’s exit door.
As for incoming transfers, Liverpool’s Geogino Wijnaldum and Olympique’s Memphis Depay are understood to be high on Koeman’s wishlist.
A new report even claims that both Wijnaldum and Depay are close to reaching an agreement over a move to Barca. The report also claims the club are hoping they can seal both the transfers for a combined €40 million.
A former Barcelona and Netherlands player is convinced that both the players would be a great addition to Koeman’s team but has urged his compatriot against buying too many Dutch players.
“As a commuter, Wijnaldum could be the cement between the stones. And Memphis really adds something individually, he can create something out of nothing,” Ronald de Boer told Fox Sports.
“In our time you had the feeling that the Dutch-Spanish ratio was 50-50. In retrospect, that wasn’t good. You really have to take that into account, you have to make sure that you don’t just buy Dutch people.
“As a coach, you attract players that you know well and who suit you well in terms of mentality and character. But it would be strong if Ronald Koeman gets a good player from the Spanish league.”
