After bagging their first big-money signing of 2022, the Barca president is feeling upbeat about the club’s transfer potential.
Barcelona’s capture of Ferran Torres proves they are ‘back’ as a ‘leader’ in the transfer market, according to the club’s president Joan Laporta.
Despite reporting a debt of €1.35 billion last August, Barcelona secured a deal worth €55 million to sign Torres from Manchester City last month.
The 21-year-old forward has agreed to a contract until 2027 at Camp Nou, with a €1 billion buyout clause. The club officially unveiled him to the supporters on Monday morning.
‘Everything is possible if you do things right’
Now, buoyant by Barca’s latest coup, Laporta made a bold claim when asked about the possibility of making more big signings, including Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.
“The technical department are working hard to build a great team. Everything is possible if you do things right,” said the president at Torres’ official presentation.
“And we are doing that, so I am sure it will go well. We are back, the proof is Ferran.
“This shows that Barca are still a leader — our resurgence is a reality, and the market has realized that.”
Aside from Haaland, Barcelona are also strongly linked with a move for Alvaro Morata. The Spaniard is expected to return to Atletico Madrid at the end of the season after two years on loan at Juventus.
