The Barcelona defender has recently renewed his contract at Camp Nou.

Ronald Araujo believes Barcelona are on their way to reaching top form under Xavi Hernandez.

The Uruguayan defender has extended his stay at Barcelona until 2026. Araujo’s quick rise to stardom has convinced the club to count on him as one of the team’s future leaders.

Since the arrival of Xavi, Araujo has developed into a key figure in Barca’s backline, playing in different defensive positions. The 23-year-old has backed Xavi to start winning trophies at Camp Nou.

“I always work hard,” he said. “I watch videos and talk a lot with Xavi about learning the Barca style. I believe in the project and we will get back up and start winning trophies again.

“I want Barca fans to feel excited about the team, because we are going back to the Barca DNA and we have a solid base of young and veteran players. We have a team to dream about.”

Araujo has played alongside Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba in Barca’s defence line. The young defender says he is keen to continue his development alongside his experienced teammates.

“I feel such immense joy,” he added on the new contract extension.

“I have matured a lot. I couldn’t pick any single moment from my time here, all I wanted was to renew my contract and be able to stay at Barca for a long, long time.”

Barcelona have climbed up to second place on the table under Xavi but shown inconsistency in their recent performances.

Let’s see if the Catalans can bounce back from their defeat against Rayo Vallecano when they host Mallorca this weekend.
