A member of the Barca board made a scathing remark about Vinicius Junior on social media.
FC Barcelona have apologized to Vinicius Junior for the disparaging comments made by club director Miquel Camps.
Camps referred to Vinicius as a “clown and a joker” in a now-deleted post on X. He even suggested the Brazilian “deserved a slap” for his on-field antics.
This came in response to Vinicius’ showboating in Real Madrid’s Champions League match against Braga on Tuesday.
“If Vinicius is listening to me, I want to say that this will not be repeated,” Barcelona’s vice president, Rafa Yuste told Movistar.
“Even if it was a mistake, it should not have been posted. It was an inappropriate [post].”
Yuste conveyed this message after Barcelona defeated Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Sadly, Vinicius has faced a lot of abuse from opposing fans in LaLiga matches. The 23-year-old recently provided evidence in a trial involving racial abuse. The case involved three Valencia supporters from a match back in May.
Camps’ comments will have further heightened tension in the lead-up to the upcoming Clasico clash between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Barca’s coach, Xavi Hernandez, has urged for a reduction in tension before the high-stakes match. For this reason, he has refused to comment on Camps’ post.
