The Catalans bounced back from their frustrating Champions League display with an easy league win.
Barcelona defeated Elche 3-0 in their La Liga game on Saturday. The Catalans claimed their fifth consecutive league victory with complete dominance.
Lewa strikes again!
Barca started the game by immediately putting Elche under pressure with long passes.
Their efforts paid off when the referee dismissed Elche’s Gonzalo Verdu for denying Robert Lewandowski a clear goalscoring chance.
The former Bayern Munich striker finally broke the deadlock in the 34th minute, converting a precise cut-back from Alejandro Balde.
Only seven minutes later, Balde delivered another assist. This time, the 18-year-old found Memphis Depay, who rifled the ball past Elche’s keeper with an unstoppable shot from inside the box.
Elche tried to get back into the game at the beginning of the game, but Barca’s third goal finished off the game.
Lewandowski completed his brace when he smashed a loose ball into the back of the net from the penalty spot.
Both Lewandowski and Depay had a few more chances to increase their goal tally. However, Elche’s Edgar Badia prevented Barcelona from extending their lead with a host of impressive saves.
The victory sends Barca to the top of the table as they await Real Madrid’s next game. The La Liga champions will face Atletico in the Madrid derby on Sunday.
