The former Atletico Madrid star scored against his former side as Barca claimed a crucial league victory.

Barcelona defeated Atletico Madrid 1-0 in their La Liga game on Sunday. A first-half goal was enough to ensure Barca’s win over Rojiblancos.

What happened?

A fast-paced start to the game saw Barcelona miss golden opportunities through Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski early on. The Catalans finally snatched their well-deserved lead when Joao Felix scored in the 28th minute. Following an assist from Raphinha, the Portuguese forward latched onto the ball inside the box before chipping over Jan Oblak.

Barca’s attacks continued after the opening, while Atletico also made a few chances on counter-attacks. The same trend continued after the break, with Raphinha and Antoine Griezmann missing early chances.

Atletico doubled down on their pressure in the final ten minutes. However, Memphis Depay’s effort to score against his former side was stopped by Jules Kounde. The Rojiblancos failed to find the equalizer as they settled for a frustrating defeat against Barca.
