Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou revealed the club’s uncertainty regarding Timo Werner’s future after the winger’s season-ending injury.

Despite Werner’s positive impact, Tottenham remains cautious about exercising their option to sign him permanently from Red Bull Leipzig.

Werner suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal and will undergo further rehabilitation at Spurs, rather than returning immediately to his parent club. Tottenham secured Werner’s services on loan in January, with an option to buy for around £15 million. While Werner contributed two goals and three assists in 14 appearances, Postecoglou emphasized the need for a strategic approach before making a final decision.

Postecoglou defended Tottenham’s handling of set-piece defending amid criticism. Refusing to be swayed by scrutiny, he referenced a Billy Joel song to express his indifference. Despite conceding 12 Premier League goals from dead-ball situations this season, Postecoglou remained steadfast, attributing the criticism to an underlying reason he’s comfortable with, though he declined to elaborate further.

Meanwhile, defender Ben Davies has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a calf injury, leaving Emerson Royal to deputize at left-back in Tottenham’s upcoming clash against Chelsea.

As Tottenham navigates Werner’s injury and evaluates their defensive vulnerabilities, Postecoglou remains focused on the club’s long-term strategy, prioritizing clarity and diligence in decision-making.
