Blues captain Cesar Azpilicueta is positive Chelsea can mount a credible challenge for silverware under new manager Thomas Tuchel.

Cesar Azpilicueta is certain Chelsea will be back contending for titles soon enough under new boss Thomas Tuchel.

The German was brought in as a replacement for Frank Lampard who was sacked last Monday.

Tuchel started life as Chelsea boss with a 0-0 stalemate against Wolves in midweek. However, he claimed his first league win as the Blues beat Burnley 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Azpilicueta opened the scoring in the first half before Marcos Alonso scored with a fine finish in the second half to seal all three points.

The result takes Chelsea up to seventh in the table ahead of their trip to north London to face Tottenham on Thursday.

After falling down the pile in recent weeks, captain Azpilicueta is confident they will soon be fighting for silverware.

“Chelsea should always win, that’s our DNA, we always play to win,” Azpilicueta told BT Sport.

“Chelsea deserves to be fighting for everything. We are far from where we want [to be], but with the new manager we have everything to play for.”

“Everyone is very ambitious, we want to give everything to get as far as possible in every competition, so let’s keep working and Thursday, we are focused on an important game.”

He added: “I think our last game against Wolves we deserved to win. Today we were struggling again to score goals.

“But it was a very good performance. We created chances and were solid at the back. We didn’t concede a shot, it was a solid performance.”
