A late equalizer from Mbappe saved France from another disappointing defeat.
Austria held France to a 1-1 draw in their UEFA Nations League clash on Friday. Les Bleus slipped to fourth place on the Group A1 table after another underwhelming draw.
Another Nations League stalemate for France!
France came into the game on the back of their 1-1 draw against Croatia on Monday.
Having collected one point from their first two matches, the Bleus came into the game to claim their first victory in the tournament against Austria.
The guests managed to dominate the possession. But it was Austria who broked the deadlock through Andreas Weimann in the 37th minute.
After the interval, France re-started their efforts to get back into the game but struggled to convert their chances. Following half an hour of relentless attacks, Kylian Mbappe finally scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute.
A brilliant through ball from Cristopher Nkunku found Mbappe, who latched on to the ball inside the box. The Paris Saint-Germain star then smashed the ball into the top corner of the net with a powerful strike to make it 1-1.
The World champions intensified their efforts to snatch the match-winner in the final five minutes but couldn’t get past Austria’s backline.
The draw sends France to the bottom of the Group A1 table while Austria move behind group leaders Denmark.
