Australia ended Denmark’s World Cup dreams with a solid display.

Australia defeated Denmark 1-0 in their World Cup game on Thursday. Following a heavy defeat against France in their World Cup opener, the Socceroos reach the last-16 round with back-to-back victories.

A bitter end for Denmark!

Denmark revived their hopes of staying in the World Cup after delivering a decent performance against France on Saturday.

The Danes needed to beat Australia to reach the next round. But their start to the game lacked enough aggressiveness to get the job done.

Australia let their opponents control the possession but, in turn, limited their chances of conducting dangerous attacks.

The Socceroos found a few counter-attacking chances, but none of them were serious enough to beat Kasper Schmeichel.

The Danes tried to increase the pressure on Australia’s backline, but their efforts only resulted in creating more opportunities for the Socceroos to attack.

Following a swift counter-attack, Riley McGree’s through ball found Mathew Leckie just behind the box. The 31-year-old then rushed forward with the ball before making it 1-0 for Australia with a brilliant low shot.

Denmark went all-in with their attacks after the goal. But Australia’s defensive integrity didn’t allow them to circulate the ball effectively in and around the box.

The victory sends Australia to the last-16 round, where they will meet the Group C leaders. Elsewhere in the group, France qualified as the leaders despite their surprising defeat against Tunisia.
