The defender is eager to get his hands on a piece of silverware, having failed to do so during his time in north London.
Serge Aurier insists his “aim is to win a title” at Villarreal after being unable to win any “for a while” throughout his Tottenham career.
Aurier severed ties with Tottenham this summer, putting an end to his four-year stint with the club after mutual termination of his contract.
After just over a month of being a free agent, the full-back joined Villarreal on a year-long deal which includes the option of extending his stay for two more years.
The Ivory Coast international came close to lifting two trophies – the Football League Cup and Champions League – during his time with Tottenham – only to see his team finish as runners-up both times.
“The aim is to win a title,” Aurier told the club media during his presentation as a Villarreal player on Friday.
“I haven’t won a title for a while, and the club has a winning mentality, as we saw last year, but the most important thing is enjoying myself, enjoying the club, enjoying my family and showing my quality and why I am here.
Aurier added on manager Unai Emery, under whom he worked at Paris Saint-Germain: “I know him well. We get on really well.
“He called me to come to Villarreal and I’m very excited to work with him again. It’s a great opportunity for me.”
