After the Super Eagles’ exit from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, the caretaker coach will step down.
Nigeria interim manager Augustine Eguavoen has said he will return to his role as technical director following the national team’s AFCON exit.
The three-time AFCON champions lost 1-0 to Tunisia on Sunday in a last-16 clash. An early second-half goal from Youssef Msakni ended Nigeria’s 100%-winning record, having previously won all three of their Group D fixtures.
Now Eguavoen, who stepped in as interim coach last month after Gernot Rohr’s dismissal, intends to go back to his previous role as technical director.

“What happens next is that I’m the interim coach and Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF),” said Eguavoen as per the Independent.
“I will go back to my position and allow the NFF to make a decision on the way forward.”
The NFF confirmed former Sporting CP and Venezuela boss Jose Peseiro will become Nigeria’s new permanent coach before AFCON began.
