Augsburg entered this Bundesliga game against Bayern Munich under pressure finding themselves in the 16th spot which meant relegation. With just one win in their last six matches, they were hoping to pull a miracle against the German champions at their home ground.
The Bavarians on the other hand were comfortably sailing the ocean with 28 points collected from 11 fixtures and sitting on top of the table. Julian Nagelsmann’s men were guaranteed a win in this easy looking encounter. However, the hosting team totally surprised their opponents right from the beginning.
Augsburg took a shocking lead over Bayern in the 24th minute of the game as Pedersen scored for his side. Iago whipped a low cross in the box which was flicked by Zeqiri towards the Danish defender. The 25-year-old drilled a shot in the bottom corner past Neuer.
Just after 11 minutes, the local team doubled their lead over their enemies. Zeqiri intercepted the ball from Sabitzer to start a counter-attack for the Fuggerei and passed it to Iago who moved towards the box. The latter then delivered an inviting cross for Hahn who was waiting for the perfect opportunity to score.
Three minutes later though, Bayern pulled one back with the help of their in-form striker Robert Lewandowski. Pavard’s ball was deflected towards the Polish forward who fired a low volley past Gikiewicz. But, it was too late as the home side kept a strong defensive line right until the end.
With these crucial three points, the home side moves up to the 15th rank in Bundesliga with 12 points in 12 games. Whereas Bayern remain at the peak, but if Borussia Dortmund win against Stuttgart tomorrow, the point gap between them will be reduced to just one point.
