Bayern are facing stiff competition in the domestic league this season.

Bayern Munich suffered a 1-0 defeat against Augsburg in their Bundesliga clash on Saturday. The Bavarians remained winless for the fourth consecutive game as they lost the Bavarian derby.

Bayern back to crisis mode?

Julian Nagelsmann was under immense pressure both from Bayern’s dressing room and media prior to his side’s match against Barcelona last week.

The Bavarians were far from being the better side against Barca. But their 2-0 win relieved the pressure on Nagelsmann ahead of the Bavaria derby.

Augsburg shocked Bayern by refusing to sit deep in defence early on. The hosts pressed their opponents with a high backline, looking for an early breakthrough.

The tactic provided Bayern with a host of golden opportunities to break the deadlock. However, Rafal Gikiewicz prevented the Bundesliga champions from finding the back of the net with a few world-class saves.

Bayern restarted their attacks as soon as the second period started. But this time, Augsburg managed to hurt them instantly with a free kick.

Leroy Sane’s terrible positioning enabled Iago to provide an assist for Mergim Berisha, who then smashed the ball behind Manuel Neuer with a composed finish.

Bayern had several more chances until the final whistle. But they had to settle for the defeat as their forwards kept on missing the opportunities.

Bayern stay fourth in Bundesliga after the defeat. However, they can slip further down the table if the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt and Mainz win their respective games tomorrow.
