The Gabonese striker left Arsenal on a free transfer to join Barcelona in January.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has reacted to Arsenal’s failure in securing Champions League qualification for the next season.

The former Gunners striker left the club last winter after Mikel Arteta stripped him of captaincy. The experienced star then joined Barcelona, where he regained his best form under Xavi Hernandez.

Following their unsuccessful bid to win the Europa League, the Catalans will return to the Champions League this season. However, there’s no chance Aubameyang would meet his former teammates in the elite competition.

“Really close [to getting in the top four],” the ex-Arsenal captain told Sky Sports.

“I think they made a lot of improvements and I’m a bit sad because I wanted to catch them in the Champions League. I have a lot of friends over there.

“But I’m wishing them all the best for next season and obviously, I think it’s going to be a good thing for them to get back to the Europa League as well. Hopefully, they can win it.”

Arsenal were in a good position to secure the Champions League qualification for several weeks. However, their poor performances prevented them from returning to the competition.

Tottenham managed to show more consistency as they leapfrogged their old rivals in the final stages of the season.
