Despite a less-than-stellar season at Stamford Bridge, Aubameyang remains confident in his abilities.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has dropped a bombshell claim. The Marseille striker has come out and said that he was the fastest player in the Chelsea squad last season.

At 34 years of age, Aubameyang claims to have beaten fellow speedsters Mykhailo Mudryk, Raheem Sterling, and Reece James – who are all in their 20s.

In fact, during his Chelsea debut against Liverpool in January, Mudryk clocked a speed of 36.63km/h. This was the fastest of any Chelsea player in the Premier League last season. Only Manchester City’s Kyle Walker (37.31km/h) and Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson (36.70km/h) ran faster out of every footballer in the entire league.

Yet, for team training sessions, Aubameyang was the star man for Chelsea, with a blistering pace of 36 km/h.

“I feel very good,” Aubameyang said in a Marseille press conference on Thursday.

“Little anecdote, I held the record for speed at Chelsea last season in training. 36 km/h. So at that level, I’m alright.”

Aubameyang left Chelsea to join Marseille on a free transfer last month.

The former Arsenal captain endured a difficult season at Stamford Bridge in 2022/23. He struggled after joining Chelsea from Barcelona in a €12 million deal. He made 21 appearances in all competitions, managing three goals and one assist.
