The newly signed striker is eager to see Dembele stay at Barcelona.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has made a perfect start to his time at Barcelona since arriving at Camp Nou earlier this month. The Gabonese star scored a hattrick for the Blaugrana in their 4-1 win over Valencia last week as he seemed already integrated into Barca’s lineup.
His best friend in Barca’s squad is Ousmane Dembele, with whom he was previously teammates at Borussia Dortmund. Dembele’s well-documented contract standoff with the club will most likely result in a free departure next summer.
However, Aubameyang reveals he has asked the Frenchman to sign a contract extension at Camp Nou against all odds.
“To tell the truth, I am very happy that he is here and when I arrived I told him: ‘You have to stay, bro!'” Aubameyang told Mundo Deportivo.
“It is something very special [to play with him] because we had an incredible year in Dortmund and he is an incredible player. Ousmane is one of the best on the ball and as a striker he is incredible.
“I don’t know [if he’ll stay], but the only thing I can say is that everything is possible in life.”
What’s next for Barcelona?
Barcelona will need the in-form Aubameyang for their upcoming battle against Napoli in the Europa League playoffs. Having drawn the first leg 1-1 at Camp Nou, the Catalans will need to break Napoli’s solid backline on Thursday.
Xavi’s side are the favourites to win the match according to the bookmakers.
Despite Barca’s recent attacking form, we don’t expect them to score as easily as they did against Valencia. On the other hand, Napoli’s underwhelming draw against Cagliari showed they are far from their best when it comes to scoring. Therefore, we suggest you don’t expect many goals in the upcoming clash.
