The LaLiga leaders have confirmed another serious injury setback ahead of next week’s Champions League clash with Chelsea.
Atletico Madrid have announced that Yannick Carrasco has sustained a muscle injury in his left leg, making him a doubt for next week’s first leg against Chelsea in their Champions League last-16 clash.
The Spanish side released a brief update on Carrasco on Friday morning, which confirmed the winger’s injury following medical tests. No potential return date, however, was announced in the statement.
“Yannick Carrasco has suffered a post-traumatic injury of the left leg musculature, an MRI scan and a medical ultrasound performed at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra confirmed,” read the club statement. “The Belgian is pending response to treatment.”
Carrasco’s injury occurred in the first of a double-header against Levante on Wednesday, which ended in a 1-1 draw. He will now sit out of the return fixture with the Valencia-based outfit on Saturday afternoon. According to Marca’s club sources, the 27-year-old is also a strong doubt to face Chelsea on Tuesday night.
Carrasco, who can play in several roles across midfield and the attack, has already five league games this season following muscle injuries and a positive COVID-19 test.
