As the La Liga title battle grows more intense each week, Atletico Madrid hope to have Felix back on board soon.

Joao Felix’s injury isn’t as bad as first feared, and the Atletico Madrid forward could return on April 22 for a trip to Huesca.

Felix suffered a recurrence of an ankle problem early in the second half of Atletico’s 1-1 draw with Real Betis on Sunday. He had just returned after missing the club’s last two league matches.

The league leaders confirmed afterward that Felix, along with full-back Kieran Trippier, was injured after undergoing tests at the Clinica Universidad de Navarra.

The 21-year-old, therefore, will miss the home match against Eibar this Sunday but could be available to face Huesca four days later.

According to Marca, Diego Simeone hopes to have Felix back for this match. The forward’s presence isn’t certain, but Atletico are desperate to have him back to help protect their lead in La Liga.

Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Barcelona has cut Atletico’s advantage to a single point with another eight games to spare.

Luis Suarez, who missed the trip to Seville last weekend through suspension, is also a doubt. The club’s top scorer suffered a training injury last week and could miss the next two games.
