With goals from Correa and Carrasco, Atletico Madrid recovered their top position in the Spanish La Liga against Huesca.

Atletico Madrid needed to keep on winning if they wanted to protect their position at the top of the Spanish La Liga. Tonight, they got a visit from Huesca in a new midweek match that could grant them that advantage. Later today, FC Barcelona play against Getafe and Atletico can’t lose any more points. Today, Diego Simeone had to play without his two biggest stars due to injury.

Both Joao Felix and Luis Suarez are currently part of the team’s injured players but they are trying to recover in time by the end of the season. In today’s match, the Colchoneros didn’t have a difficult task with Huesca still fighting to avoid relegation. Although they are in urgent need of points, this modest squad hasn’t been a great addition to this season in La Liga. Atletico Madrid had a relatively easy task against one of the weakest sides in the country.

Correa and Carrasco get the victory.

A key man for Atletico Madrid this season is Marcos Llorente, who is involved in most of the team’s created chances. Today, he assisted both goals for the Colchoneros. During the first half, he set Angel Correa up for the opening goal. However, the Argentine star does take all the credit with his movement inside the box. Llorente also set Carrasco up for the second goal near the end of the match.

His defensive work on the attack helped Atletico recover a ball inside Huesca’s box and gave him a chance to assist Yannick. With this result, Atletico Madrid takes back the top of La Liga with 73 points. Barcelona play Getafe in one hour but they will still have one more match to play after today. Things are red hot in the fight for supremacy of Spanish football.
