Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has spoken on the possibility of Antoine Griezmann returning from Barcelona this summer.

Re-signing Antoine Griezmann won’t be easy for Atletico Madrid but nothing is off the table either, says Enrique Cerezo.

Two years after leaving the Wanda Metropolitano for Camp Nou in a €120 million deal, Griezmann could be on his way back. Barcelona may need to offload him to cut their wage bill. Reports had recently linked him to Atletico as part of a swap deal for Saul Niguez. The proposal fell through, however, as Barcelona felt they wouldn’t get enough value for money.

That, along with Atletico’s reluctance to part with any of their other star players, suggests a cash-only deal might be the Madrid-based club’s only option.

“We don’t rule anything out but what we can say is that it will not be an easy signing,” Cerezo told COPE of a potential deal to sign Griezmann.

“We’re waiting for news, not only from Griezmann but from any player. I’ve already told you that it is a difficult operation.”

The Atletico president also insisted Joao Felix, the club’s record €127.2 million signing from Benfica back in 2019, won’t be offloaded.

“Joao Felix is an Atletico Madrid player, he has a long-term contract and is one of the leading figures in football in Europe,” Cerezo said.
