Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone prepares a massive clear-out after his team failed to shine in both Spain and Europe last season.
Atletico Madrid have blacklisted seven first-team players, who could make way for the newcomers, as Diego Simeone looks to overhaul his squad.
Los Colchoneros failed to reshape their roster after giving up the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Rodri last summer.
After managing only a third-place finish in La Liga in 2019/20, Simeone is hoping to revamp his team to boost Atletico Madrid’s chances of challenging for the league title next term.
Santiago Arias, Mario Hermoso, Kieran Trippier, Sime Vrsaljko, Thomas Lemar, Vitolo, and Angel Correa have all been deemed surplus to requirements, according to Spanish outlet Marca.
Among the abovementioned players, Vitolo and Lemar have been the Spanish side’s most prominent signings over the past few years, as Atletico Madrid forked out over €100million to seal their deals.
The French winger, who is on Arsenal’s wish-list, could be available for just £22million, with Simeone also thinking of including him as a makeweight in a deal to bring in Alexandre Lacazette.
It may be surprising to see Trippier’s name on this list. However, the right-back miserably flopped since arriving from Tottenham last summer.
The 29-year-old made only 23 La Liga starts and could be sold on before the transfer window was over.
As for Correa, Atletico Madrid were close to selling him to AC Milan last summer, but Simeone decided to pull the plug on the deal at the 11th hour.
The 25-year-old forward has stayed on only to score just five times in 33 top-flight outings in the recent campaign.
