In a season full of twists, the title race went down to the wire as Real Madrid‘s hopes of defending their crown were still existent on the final matchday. However, Real Madrid’s successful defense of their crown was dependent on Atletico, with two points separating the two rivals.
Los Blancos’ hopes grew stronger when their local rivals conceded early in the match against Valladolid, but not for long as they themselves let in a goal against Villarreal.
It took a while for Diego Simeone’s side to find the equalizer, but the winning goal came quickly afterwards. Angel Correa canceled out Oscar Olano’s first-half strike at minute 57 and Luis Suarez found the back of the net 10 minutes later to complete the comeback and seal the victory.
Atletico finish at the top of the table with 86 points, Real Madrid second with 84 points, and Barcelona complete the top-three with 79 points as the 2020/21 La Liga campaign is set to conclude on Sunday.
