The Red Devils have intensified their efforts to sign a new striker in recent weeks.

Atalanta striker Rasmus Højlund has admitted interest in joining Manchester United next summer.

The Red Devils have been searching for a new strike since Erik ten Hag’s arrival. The club signed Wout Weghorst mid-season, but that won’t stop them from looking for a world-class forward in the next transfer window.

Tottenham’s Harry Kane is mooted as the club’s No.1 target for the position. However, a new report reveals United’s interest in a younger option.

According to Sport Witness, the Red Devils are keen to sign Højlund, who will be available for around £23-31m.

The English giants are yet to hold a formal meeting with Atalanta over Højlund’s transfer. However, the player’s interest in moving to Old Trafford could help Man Utd edge out their rivals in the transfer race.

Højlund scored a sensational hat-trick for Denmark in their 3-1 win over Finland on Thursday. Speaking after the game, the 20-year-old was asked about a possible move to Man Utd.

“Now that you ask, I will not hide the fact that I am a huge Manchester United fan,” he said. “So personally, it would be one of the biggest things for me.”

Højlund has registered seven goals and two assists in his 23 Serie A appearances for Atalanta this season.
