Atalanta are assessing the possibility of capturing the Olympique Marseille forward Florian Thauvin, reports in Italy suggest.

Thauvin has endured an injury-riddled season at Marseille and could be on his way out of the Stade Velodrome in the coming months.

After making just two top-flight appearances for Andre Villas-Boas’ side in 2019/20, the 27-year-old has found himself on the fringes of the French team.

The Frenchman’s contract in Ligue 1 is due to expire next summer, and reports say he could be available for around €15-20million.

According to the Football Italia, Atalanta consider launching an assault on Thauvin this summer, as Gian Piero Gasperini hopes to bolster his attacking options.

After enjoying a stellar Serie A campaign and an equally impressive Champions League run, the Bergamo-based outfit are looking to add quality and depth to a well-stocked squad.

Duvan Zapata’s future at Gewiss Stadium is hanging in the balance, with Josip Ilicic also linked with a big-money move following an outstanding season.

Therefore, Gasperini is keen to bring in new faces to keep his side competitive on multiple fronts next term.

La Dea finished third in Serie A last season and were on the brink of reaching the Champions League semi-finals only to see their dream crushed at the death of their quarter-finals tie against Paris Saint-Germain.

Thauvin had been Marseille’s standout performer in 2018/19, recording 18 goals and nine assists in all competitions.

However, a long-term ankle injury could lead to a premature farewell, as Les Phoceens have no intention of renewing the Frenchman’s contract whatsoever.
