The La Liga champions secured a narrow but critical win in Italy, leaving the Serie A side plenty to do when they travel to Spain.
Atalanta will face Real Real Madrid again with “lots of confidence” and will be determined to prove they are a “strong team”, insists Robin Gosens.
Gosens’ comments come after Atalanta climbed up to fourth in the Serie A standings following a 2-0 victory over Sampdoria.
The Italians were able to bounce back on Sunday after losing out 1-0 to Real Madrid in Bergamo in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side was at a disadvantage for the majority of that match, having been reduced to 10 men after Remo Freuler was sent off at the 17-minute mark for a challenge on goalscorer Ferland Mendy.
In about two weeks’ time, the two teams clash again with the second leg scheduled for March 16 at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.
“We have lots of belief. [The 1-0 deficit] is not a great result but we can go to Madrid with lots of confidence. The red card ruined the game a little,” Gosens told DAZN Italia.
“We want to go to Madrid to show that we too are a strong team.”
