The Premier League top-four hopefuls have announced a second signing ahead of the January transfer deadline.

Morgan Rogers has become the second player to join Aston Villa in the January transfer window.

On Thursday, Aston Villa confirmed the deadline-day signing of Rogers from Middlesbrough. The club did not disclose the length of the player’s contract nor the transfer fee paid to Middlesbrough.

According to various reports, though, the transfer fee for Rogers is worth around £16 million. Aston Villa will allegedly pay Middlesbrough £8 million upfront and a further £8 million in add-ons.

Rogers was the top target for Unai Emery in the January market. The Aston Villa manager described him as a ‘potential young player’ after Wednesday’s 3-1 home defeat to Newcastle.

The 21-year-old winger joined Middlesbrough from Manchester City last summer. He made 33 appearances in all competitions for the Championship, managing seven goals and nine assists.

Aston Villa had previously signed Kosta Nedeljkovic from Red Star Belgrade for around £6.5 million. The 18-year-old right-back, though, will stay at Red Star for the rest of the Serbian league season on loan.

Emery’s side may also sign Arsenal left-back Lino Sousa before Thursday’s transfer deadline at 23:00 (GMT). The 19-year-old is then expected to join Plymouth Argyle on loan in the Championship.
