The Red Devils extended their winning run to four matches with a narrow victory at Villa Park.
Manchester United defeated Aston Villa 2-1 in their Premier League game on Sunday. Erik Ten Hag’s side claimed a hard-fought win to close their gap to the top four to six points.
What happened?
United’s bright start to the game paid off when Rasmus Hojlund put them ahead in the 17th minute. The Danish striker converted a heading assist from Harry Maguire from close range to make it 1-0 for the visitors.
The goal forced Villa to put more bodies forward as they looked to score an equalizer before the first-half whistle. But a host of brilliant saves from Andre Onana maintained United’s lead.
The Red Devils looked much better after the break, but it was Villa who finally scored the equalizer through Douglas Luiz in the 67th minute.
Villa then pushed to complete their comeback, but Ten Hag’s decision to replace Marcus Rashford with Scott McTominay proved decisive. The midfielder headed home a brilliant cross from Diogo Dalot to win the game for the Red Devils in the 86th minute.
Aston Villa vs Manchester United: Man of the Match
Onana deserves the Man of the Match title for his incredible performance against Villa. The Cameroon international arguably made his best display to date for the Red Devils, making eight saves to help them claim a crucial victory at Villa Park.
