The Italian star is reportedly keen to continue his career in the Premier League.
Nicolo Zaniolo will not be a part of AS Roma’s squad for their upcoming match against Spezia, according to Sky Sports.
Tottenham have emerged as Zaniolo’s most-likely destination since the start of the winter transfer window.
The Spurs are ready to pay £17.5m for Zaniolo if Roma agree to send him to London on an initial loan deal. However, the Gialorossi are reportedly pushing to sell the player for over £30m.
Tottenham are, undoubtedly, leading the race to sign Zaniolo. The player’s agent has already held concrete talks with the Spurs to discuss personal terms.
However, Fabrizio Romano claims Tottenham are not alone in their pursuit of Zaniolo’s signature. Another report from Sky Sport Italia names Borussia Dortmund and West Ham as Tottenham’s rivals in the Zaniolo race.
The Italy international established himself as a key player for Roma soon after his transfer from Inter in 2018. However, he has struggled to fit into Jose Mourinho’s system recently. The 23-year-old has made 13 Serie A appearances for the Gialorossi this season, scoring just one goal.
Tottenham’s midfield problems could make Zaniolo a crucial signing for Spurs as they hope to reclaim their top-four spot in the Premier League.
