As a response to his initial statement against Arsenal, Mikel Arteta wanted to send a message to Mesut Özil after getting snubbed.
The whole situation between Mesut Ozil and Arsenal seems more like a personal issue with Mikel Arteta. Chances are that we will never know the real reason behind the Spanish manager’s decision to leave the German star out of the Premier League squad. It’s not as if Mesut Ozil isn’t one of the most talented players in the world. He is a dying breed in this globalized sport.
A true playmaker who could shine more than anybody if he is given the proper tools to blossom. But Arsenal hasn’t been an ideal place for him over the last couple of years. There have been several instances in which the star felt things were going well. But Arteta just gave him the final verdict on his situation. Now that he knows he isn’t wanted at the club, it may be time for Ozil to start looking for a new destination.
Arteta’s cold response to Ozil.
The player refused to remain quiet after the snub, he wrote a long statement where he points directly at his current club. Many rumors have surfaced about the reasons behind this decision, but Arteta wanted to clear the air about what happened.
“Everybody is free to express his feeling,” said Mikel about Ozil’s statement via The Mirror. “My conscience is very calm because I have been very fair to him, my level of communication with him has been very high. We need to look everybody in the eye and be comfortable with it. This feeling exists with Mesut.”
He added: “Honestly I take full responsibility. I have to be the one getting the best out of the players. He has had opportunities like everybody else. I’m sad I had to leave three players out of this list. I want the best possible Mesut. In some moments I was able to get close to that. This is my responsibility. It is nothing related to any behavior or pay cuts. That’s not true. It’s my decision.”
