The Gunners have enough problems as it is and now have been handed a huge injury blow ahead of a packed festive schedule.

Mikel Arteta has ruled Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out of Arsenal’s Carabao Cup quarter-final match against Manchester City.

A calf concern prevented Aubameyang from participating in Saturday’s Premier League action, and the Gunners lost 2-1 to Everton in the absence of their captain.

The Gabon international is expected to remain unavailable for his side’s next two Premier League games against Chelsea and Brighton, and this means more troubles for Arsenal who are already off to their worst start to a league campaign since 1974-75.

“Auba is not fit for tomorrow, that’s for sure,” Arteta told in his pre-match press conference, via Sky Sports.

“[He] is feeling much better. He was more positive yesterday than in the previous two days. He will have another scan in the next few days and we will see how quickly we can get him back in the team.

“He knows how important he is for us, he feels the responsibility and he is trying his best to be fit as quick as possible.”

Despite their struggles in the Premier League, the Gunners have fared well in the League Cup.

Arteta’s men defeated Leicester City in the third round and beat Liverpool in the Round of 16 to reach the last eight.
