The Gunners bolstered their top-four hopes by coming back from a goal down to beat Wolves 2-1 on Thursday.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed what he told his players to help inspire a 2-1 comeback win against Wolves.
The north London side suffered an early blow when Hwang Hee-chan capitalized on a Gabriel error to put Wolves ahead. They pushed hard for an equalizer, but struggled to break down the visitors’ defense until Nicolas Pepe grabbed an equalizer in the final eight minutes of the second half.
Alexandre Lacazette’s shot then caught the hand of Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa and went into the back of the net, sealing a late-winning goal.
‘We want to be there, third, fourth at the top’
The comeback victory moved Arsenal to within a point of the top-four, much to Arteta’s delight.
“I will say the way we won it because it creates such a belief, a togetherness, an atmosphere and cohesion with our fans as well and that’s extremely necessary,” the Gunners boss told Amazon Prime.
“We really want to create something special here and without our fans we’re not going to be able to do it. This team needs that belief. We are a really young squad.
“I just said at half-time, ‘we want to be there, third, fourth at the top with the big teams we have to be able to go out in the second half and beat them’. That was the spirit right from the beginning of half-time and they managed to do it.”
Arsenal are one point behind fourth-placed Manchester United and have two games in hand over the Red Devils.
“Yes but ‘if’ in football doesn’t work, we have to do it, so we are still not there,” Arteta pointed out.
Arteta’s men next visit Watford on Sunday, March 6, in the Premier League.
