Mikel Arteta looks back at his job a year after he was made Arsenal manager and gives his verdict on a challenging period so far.

It’s safe to say Mikel Arteta has seen a roller-coaster ride since he was made Arsenal boss.

The Spaniard guided the Gunners to a record FA Cup triumph after just six months at the club.

Arteta started the current season on a winning note with the Community Shield and an opening day victory over Fulham.

However, those wins have dried up of late and the Gunners find themselves languishing in 15th place.

Just two points from their last five league games means Arsenal are closer to relegation than they are to the top of the league.

In two days from now, it would make exactly a year since Arsenal appointed Arteta as manager and the Spaniard looks back at what has been a challenging year at the club.

“I think it has been one of the most challenging years in the club’s history for many, many different reasons,” he told the club’s website.

“I think we have made a lot of progress and implanted a lot of positive things that have worked really well. We have gone through structural changes right across the club that has obviously shaken the club, big time.

Arteta continued: “I would say the highlights of the year is the two trophies that we have won together, and the most disappointing thing is that we haven’t had our fans with us to take us through this difficult moment.”

“I think it could have been a really, really positive year but the recent form in the Premier League is taking the gloss off what we have done in the calendar year. But we have to accept that our Premier League form in recent weeks is not good enough for this football club.”

Arsenal face an in-form Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday and they face a difficult task if they are to get anything from the game.
