The Gunners boss gave an update on the club’s transfer activity following an early FA Cup exit at the hands of Southampton.
Mikel Arteta has confirmed Arsenal are lacking ‘in one or two positions’ and hopes to bring in cover before the end of the January transfer window.
The club’s sole bit of major business this winter so far is the signing of goalkeeper Matt Ryan on a loan deal from fellow Premier League side Brighton and 19-year-old defender Omar Rekik from Hertha Berlin in Germany.
After Gabriel Magalhaes’ first-half own goal sent the Gunners crashing out of the FA Cup in a fourth-round 1-0 defeat to Southampton on Saturday, however, Arteta conceded he needs more signings.
“We are looking in the market to see else what we can do,” said Arsenal manager Arteta as quoted in the Express.
“Obviously we moved some players, we are a little bit short in one or two positions.
“Let’s see what we can do.”
Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard is reportedly close to a loan move to Arsenal for the rest of the season.
Sead Kolasinac, Matt Macey, and William Saliba have all left on loan deals in terms of departures. Sokratis Papastathopoulos had his contract terminated by mutual consent, and Mesut Ozil is set to complete a free transfer to Fenerbahce.
