The Gunners reportedly haven’t yet opened renewal talks with the Frenchman despite the fact that he’s fast approaching free agency.
Mikel Arteta has opened up on Alexandre Lacazette’s contract situation at Arsenal.
Lacazette has been an important member of the Arsenal squad ever since his arrival from Lyon in a then club-record £46.5 million deal in the summer of 2017.
However, the forward has fallen down the squad pecking order this season, having started just one of Arsenal’s games and made only appearances so far in 2021-22.
It has been suggested that the Gunners are ready to part ways with the 29-year-old, whose contract with the club is due to expire at the end of the season.
“It is the situation that we have, we have to accept it,” Arteta said at his pre-match press conference.
“I cannot ask anything for the player, the way he is dealing with that situation and it is not an individual situation because it has a knock-on effect as others we have had to deal with in the past, and we have to see what the best option will be for everyone at the end of the season.
Asked whether he’d let Lacazette stay if it were up to him, Arteta responded: “Well, he’s our player, and I treat him like any other player.
“Not because he has a year left, or doesn’t have a year left. I’m not going to treat him differently, and that’s what he deserves.”
