Fresh off his first Ballon d’Or nomination, Bukayo Saka is being backed for even greater things by the Arsenal manager.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is “sure” Bukayo Saka can become a Ballon d’Or winner.
In Monday’s Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris, Saka finished 24th in the rankings. It was the first time he had been nominated for the iconic award.
Saka’s nomination came following a standout campaign in 2022/23. The 22-year-old not only starred for England at the World Cup, but he also played a vital role in Arsenal’s challenge for the Premier League crown.
Now, Arteta has expressed his belief in Saka’s potential to become the world’s best player.
“For sure,” the Arsenal coach said when asked if the winger can land a Ballon d’Or.
“He does think about it. He wants to be the best and I have discussed it with him.”
Martin Odegaard was also a Ballon d’Or nominee on Monday. The Arsenal captain finished in 28th place in the rankings, alongside PSG attacker Randal Kolo Muani.
Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale ended up eighth in the Yashin Trophy poll. This award was won by Aston Villa and Argentina star Emiliano Martinez, who played for Arsenal between 2010 and 2020.
Ramsdale could be back in the line-up on Wednesday when Arsenal take on West Ham in the Carabao Cup.
