Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has green-lighted Matteo Guendouzi’s transfer to Villarreal after an offer from Spain came a couple of days ago.

Matteo Guendouzi has been an unpopular figure in the capital and could be on his way out of the club in the coming months.

Arsenal’s squad will undergo drastic changes in the summer after the Gunners failed to qualify for the Champions League for the fourth year running.

Arteta has already compiled a register of players deemed surplus to requirements, with Guendouzi’s name featuring the list close to the top.

Former Arsenal boss, Unai Emery, who recently replaced Javier Calleja at the helm of Villarreal, is keen to reunite with the French midfielder and has already taken steps towards completing the deal.

The ‘Yellow Submarine’ have tabled a loan bid for the 21-year-old that also includes an option to buy next summer for a reported fee of £30million.

Although Arsenal remain hopeful of including an obligation to buy, they may, regardless, sanction the move to get Guendouzi’s salary off the books.

That’s precisely the figure the London giants are looking for to get rid of their outcast, and there’s a genuine feeling the deal could take place soon.

According to Football Insider, Arteta has given his consent for the transfer to move forward after having a falling out with Guendouzi back in June.

Indeed, the pair had a bust-up during Arsenal’s 2-1 Premier League defeat to Brighton.

Guendouzi has since tumbled down the Emirates pecking order and has not featured for the FA Cup winners again, with various speculations linking him with a move away from north London.
