Mikel Arteta is calm over the whole Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang contract situation and has urged the fans to do the same.

Arsenal have been in an impasse with Pierre-Emerick-Aubameyang regarding a contract extension for several months now.

It has been reported that the Gunners have proposed an offer of a three-year deal worth around €270,000-a-week (£250k) to their skipper.

Should he put pen to paper on the said deal, he will become the club’s second-highest earner after Mesut Ozil, who takes home around €380,000 per week (£350k).

The Athletic also claim that the terms of the said contract were proposed by the club’s former head of football, Raul Sanllehi, and was then finalized by the technical director Edu.

Furthermore, manager Mikel Arteta reportedly played a crucial role in convincing the 31-year-old striker, who had been linked with a move to FC Barcelona and Inter Milan in January, to stay put at the Emirates.

It has been quite a while since the reports came out but Arteta suggests it will not be too long now before Aubameyang’s contract extension is made official.

“I think they [the supporters] can be pretty relaxed,” said the Spaniard ahead of the 2020/21 Premier League season opener against Fulham, as per the club’s official Twitter handle.

“I can say that I am even more confident that I was at the end of last season.”
