Thomas Partey lasted just 45 minutes in Arsenal’s shocking defeat to Aston Villa with a suspected injury, which Mikel Arteta has confirmed.

Arteta has announced that Partey is set to undergo a scan on a presumed thigh injury following Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa on Sunday.

The former Atletico Madrid midfielder struggled to insert any influence in the game before making way for Dani Ceballos at the break.

The full extent of Partey’s injury remains unclear at this stage, but it may cause him to withdraw from Ghana’s double-header against Sudan in a pair of Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers over the international break.

“I don’t know,” said Arteta on the severity of the player’s injury on Arsenal.com. “As I said, the doctor will have to have a look at him and probably scan him. Then we will decide what to do with him.”

Quizzed on whether Partey will withdraw from international duty, the Gunners boss replied: “We don’t know.

“We have to scan him tomorrow or the day after and see what he felt straight away. Let’s wait and see what the magnitude of the injury is.”

Ollie Watkins’ brace and an own goal from Bukayo Saka, meanwhile, condemned Arsenal to a shock 3-0 loss to Villa at the Emirates Stadium. It came just a week after their brilliant 1-0 win away to Manchester United.

The defeat also meant Arteta’s men have failed to score in three of their last four league games.
