Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang got in on the goals once again after a long time. Mikel Arteta had his say on that.
Mikel Arteta is hopeful the floodgates can open for Aubameyang once again after the forward grabbed a goal against Southampton on Wednesday night.
The club captain spared his side’s blushes after grabbing a second-half equalizer that prevented a 10-man Gunners from yet another defeat.
Asides from the above, the goal was of much significance to Aubameyang for many other reasons.
The Gabonese forward last scored from open play in the Premier League on the opening fixture of the season against Fulham. His only other league goal came against Manchester United at Old Trafford from the penalty spot.
The look on Aubameyang’s face during his goal celebrations showed just how much it meant to him. Mikel Arteta is hopeful the striker can build confidence from that and get back to scoring more frequently as he usually does.
“Hopefully it’s going to change everything dramatically and he’s going to score every game because this is what we need at the moment,” Mikel Arteta said after the game as per the club’s website.
“We need the points and in order to do that, we need to score many more goals and be more efficient when we have the chances. I think it’s going to make him really good.”
“I don’t have to see it, I’m sure that it’s going to take a lot of pressure off him and it’s going to release him as well.”
If Arsenal are to stand any chance of a result against Everton at the weekend, Mikel Arteta would no doubt hope that Aubameyang gets a goal or two once again.
