Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is confident Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will start scoring regularly again soon.

Aubameyang has been by far Arsenal’s most prolific forward since joining from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018. The 31-year-old has racked up 72 goals in 115 competitive outings for the Gunners.

He was decisive for the London outfit against Liverpool in the Community Shield and was on the scoresheet against Fulham in their Premier League curtain-raiser.

However, since penning a new three-year deal worth £250,000-a-week, Aubameyang has failed to find the back of the net.

The Gabonese star remains goalless in four consecutive league matches, despite playing on his favorite left side of Arteta’s three-man attack.

The Spanish manager has been reluctant to put Aubameyang more central to help him bring his drought to an end. But, Arteta remains confident of seeing his headline performer returning to his best soon.

“With all the strikers if you ask when they don’t score for two or three games if there are concerns, in my opinion, the performance was not [a cause],” Arteta said, as relayed by the Metro.

“He could have scored again on Saturday in a one-vs-one situation that normally he does. It’s trying to get in better positions as frequently as we can to try to give him the best possible chance.”

Aubameyang could feature for Arsenal in the Thursday clash against Rapid Vienna in the Europa League.

Competition for the top-four places in the Premier League is fierce, which is why Arteta will approach Europe’s second-tier tournament seriously.

“We are very excited to be playing back in Europe again after a difficult season where we had to earn our right to play here through winning the FA Cup.

“It’s a big bonus for us. We want to make the best out of it and every competition that we are involved in. Our aim is to try to win it.”
