The Reds eliminated Villarreal on their way to reaching the Champions League final.
Arsene Wenger has praised Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah for their performances since the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Liverpool pair pulled off yet another brilliant display, helping the Reds in their comeback against Villarreal in the Champions League semi-finals.
With a 5-2 win on aggregate, Salah and Mane will play their third UCL final in the past five years. This comes after a mid-season AFCON campaign that saw Mane lift the continental trophy.
Speaking on beIN Sports, Wenger praised the African pair for their recent form.
“Look at Salah and Sadio [Mane], who played the Africa Nations Cup final,” the 72-year-old told beIN Sports. “What they have done since they have come back, it’s monstrous.
“We would have complained in Europe that we played too many games – never a word. Tonight, Mane has been kicked all over the place, never a word.”
Wenger has attracted criticism for being one of the leading figures behind FIFA’s plans for a biennial World Cup. But, it is hard to argue with his point about Salah and Mane. Both players have been integral to Liverpool’s pursuit of the quadrupole this season.
By beating Villarreal, Liverpool reached the Champions League final. The Reds have already won the League Cup and must face Chelsea in the FA Cup final. Jurgen Klopp’s side are also one point away from the Premier League top spot with four games to play.
The Reds will continue their league campaign with a clash against Tottenham this weekend.
